Tiz the season for a new post.....

(THIS ONE IS FOR YOU, ROD!)
*Preface*
So the reason I made a comment about Rod is....for months Rod has been bugging me to write on my blog.  He even told me to write a crossfit blog about not going to crossfit.  Which got me thinking....

So yes I have not been going to crossfit for at least......um....a year. (where is the awkward emoticon face when you need it?) And just to clarify it's not because I'm a total lazy-unmotivated-bum.  It's actually because I'm a busy nursing student-parent-wife-exhausted-poor-lazy-unmotivated-bum. (in case you were wondering.)

Good news though.......Since it has indeed been a year since getting into nursing school that means I'm almost done.  May is graduation! woot woot! Which means, look out Rod!  More blogs are close at hand.

(and you can disregard the unhealthy food item shown in this photo....we can just pretend that it's not there right?)
*sigh*

Anyhow, I told Rod that the day I go back to crossfit and do a 'workout of da day' (WOD) I will write a blog.  And since went to last week friday's WOD aaaaand.....I'm supposed to be writing a paper on pediatric nursing it is a perfect time to kill some time.

So here it is.

*My 'epic' experience*

This semester is dedicated to pediatric nursing.  So this December we are taking a trip to the island of Oahu to spend a week in Kapiolani Children's Hospital to learn how to care for sick babies and children.  (I know, very sad, but obviously necessary).  Because the program doesn't fund our trip we have to find our own funds for flight/hotel/transportation/food/and parking.  My way of fundraising was to bake my 'not-so-famous' vegan bars.  And where is the perfect place to sell them? at a gym full of health freaks of course. (btw i love you guys)

So here was my plan, bake some bars, bring some car wash tickets and just be the mini vender at the gym.  Well of course my husband persuades me to bring my shoes just in case I'm able to work out.  (Mind you I haven't worked out in.....yea....a year.)  So in my head I'm thinking, "yeah right...there will be no working out for me..." But I brought the shoes anyway.  (and yes it is the one and only pink shoes)

Anyway, I get there and everyone is very welcoming (as usual).  And as I suspected always eager to try anything that sounds like it's healthy but tasty....like for example my "all natural vegan pumpkin and organic chocolate chip bars".  But also expected....not as eager to get their car washed.  :P (just kidding I had a good turn out from my crossfit buddies at the car wash).

I eventually couldn't resist our fearless leader Robert aka "Bumper" when he told me to get my dang pink shoes on and start warming up.  What really sold me was the Oly lifting.  I love doing it and I really really miss it.  I think that is what I miss the most of not being at the gym.

Clean and Jerks.  nothing to heavy but just having the bar in my hands again and lifting it was a great feeling.

Ok so getting to the point....That night was a pretty simple workout.  Kettle bell swings and sit ups.  I didn't look at the board so I didn't really realize how many of each....thank goodness I didn't look till the workout was starting because I would of chickened out for sure.

40 KBS
20 Situps
30 KBS
15 Situps
10 KBS
5 Situps

(I know not that bad but....people...give me some slack, outta shape here)

So long story short I did the whole workout, with a small #15 lb kettle bell.  Pretty stoked that I did it.  Felt good to be active again.

(although doing the car wash the next day for 4 or 5 hrs bending over didn't feel to good.  I felt like an old lady walking slow holding my back by the end of the day)

Sooo maybe not so 'epic'.....but a great experience nonetheless.

Mahalo to all the wonderful RFM'ers (Raw Fitness Maui)  for welcoming me back for the night and buying my baked goods! :) There is much more to sell so let me know if you want some more!!!
